Anthony Bourdain - No Reservations
My wife bought me one of his novels, which was pretty good. I ended up reading all three of his crime novels. Not mysteries, they take place pretty much in the intersection between organized crime and restaurants. They’re romances in the old sense of the word-too dark for comedy, they end too happily to be tragedies.
Anyway, when I ran out of novels, I started DVRing No Reservations. The last couple of years have been less about disgusting food and more about looking for the cool underbelly of a town. I have about 10 more to go and once this election is over, I’ll be able to get back to them. Check out the New York, Tokyo, New Jersey episodes.

IMO, Bourdain, as a TV travel/food show guy, has been a little less snarky and a lot mellower since he became a dad. He stands out in the generally slimy world of TV reality shows, showing a commendable degree of cultural sensitivity. Andrew Zimmern is the champion of eating disgusting food. I can’t bare to watch his show. Even worse is a drinking show called “Three Sheets.”
