Buca’s Tuscan Roadhouse

by Don on October 28, 2009

Had dinner tonight in my favorite Italian restaurant on the Cape–Buca’s in Harwich. Been looking forward to it for a while. I took our friend Maureen who now lives in Eastham, who knows how I feel about Buca’s.

The appetizers were two raviolis, with blue cheese and figs, and a Tuscan Crab Bisque. The bisque was amazing–creamy, rich tasting, filled with crab. The ravs were homemade with perhaps a little too much Gorganzola, but the mission figs sweetened the dish considerably.

Maureen went with the Swordfish over fresh pasta with more of the figs. Tasty but not overwhelming. I went with the Tuscan mixed grill: a grilled duck leg confit, duck sausages, a pork chop with an orange-fig sauce, grilled tomatoes and artichokes and some polenta. I knew as soon as I’d ordered it it was the wrong idea. Basically grilled meats. No sauce, no pasta. I felt like Oscar or George, both of whom have been known to say, “Bad choice.”

They are open next week so I have a second chance to get it right.  Damn.

The bisque was pretty smooth and rich and tasted of crab. Gypsy Rose’s chowder was a thinner soup and the fish and corn were pieces in it. Had a great time in Chatham and the good news is that they want me back for some more. Plus some opportunity in Harwich. I could do worse than have to travel to the Cape regularly.

How does the crab bisque compare to the salmon and corn chowder we had at Gypsy Rose? Hope you are having great time on the Cape. Bill
