Apparently so. I still think it was pretty cheesy on Paul Kantner's part.

I read the Chrysalids in high school, and being raised on Jefferson's Airplane because of my dad, I recognized the lyrics right away and have always wondered why Wyndham wasn't credited on the album. Apparently, it was with permission, though. (Wikipedia says so.)

I grew up on 149th, during the late 70's all the way to the mid 90's. Different time than the author, but still the great fond memories are the same. Will always be considered 'home'.

Arley (Canada): I was so happy to see your post about peanut butter put in deviled eggs! My mother used to make them that way but I never knew the amounts to use. Thank you for the peanut butter/egg yolk idea. Everybody I know thinks I'm crazy when I say PB in deviled eggs (I'm in Grand Prairie, TX)

My first impression upon entering Lumberyard was, 'fancy wine bar with food as a chaser - possibly, even, an afterthought.' The food menu was slender by comparison with the one for beverages, but all of the dishes we and our friends ordered were superb. Our only complaint that evening, and it was a serious one, had to do with the noise level. We were there on a weekend evening, and the din was so intense that the only way we could communicate was by hollering through cupped hands, thereby contributing to the general riot. We have learned that the owners are taking measures to install fabric and other sound dampeners. We would caution those who prefer quiet conversation with their dining to check into the matter before booking a reservation.

With a name like Lumberyard you wouldn't think it was so fancy! I keep telling myself to get out and enjoy more local "fancy" food and this will definitely be on my list :)

I'd also like to start adding restaurant reviews for Western Mass to my blog--do you have any advice? Should I ask the restaurants beforehand or just go for it? Do you let them know you're going to review them?

I denied my unwillingness to support the Chinese restaurant regime in favor of stomach for 3 years. I can't do it any longer. There is too much evidence at the local restaurant of labor-law breaking hours, and a sense that the staff are restricted from learning English and joining in the community. I plan to file a report.
